Outer Banks Completes Beach Nourishment Project

The Kill Devil Hills portion of the beach nourishment project was officially completed on July 28, 2017.  Now that the sand has finished pumping, the beach will go through a phase of “beach nourishment profile equilibration”.  This phase can last up to 12 months and sometimes will appear as though the project is losing sand to mother nature but it is an expected event in the process.  The width of the beach may dramatically decrease as some of the sand is transported offshore.
